ACT Sports Minister Andrew Barr will host the 2010/11 Cricket Australia Futures League Champions the ACT Comets later today.

Minister Barr will host members of the team and Cricket ACT supporters for a reception at the ACT Legislative Assembly.

The Comets premiership was the first time the team had won a national competition since they were included back in 1997 in the Mercantile Mutual Cup.

The ACT Comets sealed the Futures League premiership back in February this year against Victoria in Melbourne. Going into the match the Comets required an outright victory to secure the title and delivered with a wonderful six wicket victory.

The team was expertly led by experienced Captain Mark Higgs who finished the season as the leading wicket taker (28 wickets) in the competition. He was superbly supported by fast bowlers Ben Oakley (24 wickets) and Josh Anderson (20 wickets).

Comets opening batsman Sam Miller had a wonderful year taking out the leading run scorer gong for the competition massing 593 runs at 59.30 and was well supported by opening partner Tom Thornton (445 runs at 40.45) and middle order batsman Mark Littlewood (448 runs at 64.00).
