Dawson Coaching Guest for PNG

ACT cricket coaching guru Andrew Dawson will be a guest coach at a Papua New Guinea (PNG) High Performance cricket camp this weekend.

Dawson who recently returned from some time coaching in Singapore will be based in Port Moresby working with former Australian all-rounder and current PNG coach Andrew Bichel.

PNG cricket over the past two years has seen vast improvements from grass roots through to high performance cricket, picking up several International Cricket Council (ICC) awards.

Last season Cricket ACT welcomed two PNG male players Jack Vare and Asad Vala to Canberra on a cricket exchange program. Both players played for Ginninderra Cricket Club and trained with the ACT Comets squad. Both players then featured prominently in PNG‘s recent success in securing 18th place in the ICC world cricket rankings.

The ACT Comets premiership winning coach will cast his eyes over some untapped talent with the possibility of some PNG players returning to the ACT in October. The possibility of players coming to Canberra to develop their cricket could also include some talented female players.

During his time based at Port Moresby Dawson will also get to watch the men’s and women’s PNG national cricket championships grand final enabling him to observe players in a match situation.

This will be the first time Andrew Dawson has visited PNG as a guest cricket coach and confirms that Cricket ACT is not only been looked at as a development pathway for Australian cricketers, but an avenue for international cricketers to develop their skills in the ACT.
