The Southern Cross Cricket Assassins have moved straight into the final of the Canberra Southern Cross Club ACT Zone of the National Indoor Cricket League after finishing top of the table at the end of the round stage of the competition.
Under the captaincy of a returning Luke Ryan, the Assassins performed well on the weekend with two victories over the Play Straight Cricket Panthers and Wolves at Kaleen Indoor Sports on the weekend while the Play Straight Cricket Panthers and Wolves both came away with a win against the last placed Jaguars.
“I’m very proud of the efforts of our side to make the final, it’s quite a young group collectively and we have relied on players like 16-year-old Dylan Faram to step up against players who have national and international experience and he has been fantastic.” Ryan said. “The NICL Is an excellent initiative from Cricket Australia in promoting the indoor form of our game. The live streamed round of the week has seen great exposure of the sport across Australia and around the world. Hopefully, this is only the start of bigger and better things for the sport as the players have a lot of skills on offer to show.” he added.
The next match will see the Play Straight Cricket Panthers and Wolves meet in the Preliminary Final of the competition to see who takes on the Southern Cross Cricket Assassins in the final. The winner of the final will then travel to Melbourne later in the year to take on the other winners of the various zones around Australia to determine a national champion.
The preliminary final takes place on the 17th of June at Weston Indoor Sports with the final is set to be held at Action Indoor Sports Kambah on the 24th of June which will be covered via live stream.
