Abode Hotels ACT Meteor Maitlan Brown has been named in the Cricket Australia National Selection Panel’s 13-player Commonwealth Bank Shooting Stars squad set to tour Sri Lanka from 27 March– 11 April.

Made up of Australia’s best emerging players aged 21 and under, the side will be coached by former Australian fast-bowler and Women’s Youth Coach, Cathryn Fitzpatrick with Victoria and Melbourne Stars’ Coach, David Hemp acting as Assistant Coach.

Right-arm quick Brown said she’s nervous about the tour ahead, but will use this opportunity to keep strengthening her career in cricket.

“It feels good [to have been selected], very nerve-racking, but certainly exciting.”

“It all started in the ACT. Getting the great opportunity to play in the Women’s National Cricket League with the Meteors gave me great exposure to play in the Women’s Big Bash and for Australian selection. Sometimes it’s hard to believe this all happened in under twelve months.”

“I think it’ll be very important to perform well [while away]. Being selected in the squad at a young age will help my game to develop by being around the elite scene for a longer period, not to mention being able to learn from senior players who have gone through similar pathways in their playing career. There’s a lot of girls in this squad who I’m yet to meet, so I’m excited to be able to bond with the other players.”

“Having never been overseas before, I’m excited for new cultural experiences, but I’m also looking forward to being able to work with Australian Coaches. It will be a great opportunity to learn from them and hopefully be noticed for future selection.”

The squad will assemble at the Bupa National Cricket Centre (NCC) in Brisbane on Sunday 26 March before flying to Colombo where they will play three One-Day fixtures and three Twenty20s against Sri Lanka.

Speaking following the selection of the side, National Selector Shawn Flegler said: “The players that have been included in this squad were all standouts across the summer, with some really impressive performances for their domestic sides and Women’s Big Bash League clubs.

“This tour will allow these players to experience cricket in different conditions and will

play an important role in their ongoing development as future national players.”
