Teams from far and wide coming to UC Cup

The region’s largest pre-season junior cricket tournament is rapidly approaching, with teams already confirmed from throughout the south-eastern region, and even as far afield as India.

Formerly the Kookaburra Cup, Cricket ACT is thrilled to be partnering with the University of Canberra to showcase Australia’s beloved sport of cricket to aspiring young players and their families. We have two primary goals – participation and enjoyment for all.

The tournament is held at multiple venues across Canberra and is open to entries from both boys and girls. The UC Cup is all about fast-paced, thrilling Twenty20 matches that highlight talent and teamwork.

Past tournaments have seen teams entered from Sydney, the Illawarra, Southern Highlands, and South Coast areas of south-eastern NSW, but the 2024 UC Cup gains an international flavour with three teams confirmed from Delhi and Punjab in India.

The three teams will come to Canberra courtesy of the Canberra-based Adams Cricket Academy and former Indian allrounder Madan Lal’s Cricket Academy from Delhi, who have combined for a ten-day North Indian Schoolboys Cricket Tour to Australia in September and October.

The teams consist of players from Amritsar, Ludhiana, and Chandigarh, and the main aim of their tour is for the young cricketers to gain exposure to Australian playing conditions and test themselves against cricketers from their own age group.

With Play Cricket Week underway around Australia currently, where young players with all levels of experience and ability are encouraged to sign up to play for the 2024/25 cricket season, the UC Cup represents the perfect opportunity for young teams to have a competitive hit-out ahead of the coming season.

And your team could win a unique coaching experience!

Simply head to the UC Cup page on the CACT website, and fill out the Expression of Interest form for your teams, and we’ll be in contact to finalise your registration.

But don’t miss out! Spaces in all divisions are filling fast, so be sure to get your teams registered before they close soon.
