The Abode Hotels ACT Meteors have announced their 13-player squad to travel to Hobart to play two matches this weekend in Round 5 & 6 of the WNCL.
The side will play South Australia on Friday and home-side Tasmania on Sunday to finish off their regular season matches for the 2017/18 season. The side will need to win both games this weekend to remain a chance to play in the final on February 24.
Head Coach James Allsopp has been working hard with the team since the players have arrived back from their respective WBBL duties.
“The key for us has been ensuring we are getting back into 50 over cricket mode,” said James Allsopp
“I know the girls are itching to get down to Hobart to showcase their skills in 50 over cricket and over a longer period.”
The side will be without Dane van Niekerk and Marizanne Kapp who have returned home to South Africa for International duties while Maitlan Brown comes into the squad for the first time this season after injury prevented her from playing in the first four matches.
“Both players are obviously world class but their absence presents a great opportunity for other players particularly with the ball,”
“We have Maitlan Brown returning from injury to play her first game for us this season off the back of some terrific form in Big Bash so I think she can do a similar role for us as Kappy did.
“Erin Burns played fantastic for the Sixers in Big Bash so I am looking forward to her playing a similar role for us as Dane did with the bat in terms of trying to take the game away from the opposition.”
