The extension is off the back of an initial 3-year partnership with Cricket ACT from 2016 – 2019.

James Allsopp, Cricket ACT’s CEO, stated “We are grateful for the continued support provided by Abode Hotels to the Abode Hotels ACT Meteors. For several years, Abode has been taking care of our players and guests via their market-leading hotels. The positive environment they provide has been instrumental to the stability and connection our players have to the Abode Hotels ACT Meteors and our community.”

Iconic Hotels general manager, Rien Donkin, said he was pleased to align Abode Hotels with Cricket ACT and the ACT Meteors once again.

“We are proud to support local sport within our community and look forward to the continued partnership success with Cricket ACT and the Abode Hotels ACT Meteors across the 2019 season and beyond,” said Donkin.

The good news came at the perfect time, just days prior to the Abode Hotels ACT Meteor’s first match of the season. The Meteors used the announcement yesterday as an opportunity to also name the 13-player squad who will travel to Adelaide for the first round of the Women’s National Cricket League (WNCL) on Sunday September 22 and Tuesday September 24.

The Abode Hotels ACT Meteors will open their 2019/20 season against Victoria on the 22nd and back up against South Australia on the 24th.

This season will see 5 players making their squad debut, with 4 of the 5 playing in the first round.

The Abode Hotels ACT Meteors have been thrown a few curve balls this pre-season, with both Angela Reakes and Maitlan Brown picking up injuries.

High Performance Manager, Olivia Thornton, said on the matter “Credit to Erin Osborne and the rest of the team for the way in which they have been able to ensure their preparation leading into round one and two of the WNCL. There is always a silver lining and with the absence of Reakes and Brown, this gives other players an opportunity to make their mark on this competition.”

Despite the setbacks, Thornton is still feeling positive about the Abode Hotels ACT Meteors chances this weekend in Adelaide. “We have a relatively young side going away to Adelaide, but I am confident that we will we competitive and can get the job done against Victoria and South Australia.”
