The Abode Hotels ACT Meteors have today announced all-rounder Anna Lanning will be joining the team for the 2018/19 Women’s National Cricket League (WNCL) season.
After eight seasons with the Victorian Spirit, 24-year old Lanning is looking forward to the next phase in her career and making an impact in the WNCL this coming summer.
“I’d just really like to cement my spot, train really hard and hopefully make some runs and take some wickets,” Lanning said.
“It’s pretty simple but that’s cricket and I’d just like to put in some good performances and have a good year with the girls.
“I’ve been in Victoria for about eight years and had a great time there but this is a new chapter for me and a new part in my career so I’m really excited.”
Lanning has also played for the Melbourne Stars in the Women’s Big Bash League since 2015 and played for Box Hill Cricket Club in the Victorian Premier Cricket League. Lanning was awarded the Una Paisley medal for league most valuable player in season’s 2014/15 and 2017/18.
Commenting on her signing, Abode Hotels ACT Meteors Head Coach James Allsopp said
“We are very excited to be bringing Anna up from Victoria to play for us,” James said
“By Anna’s own admission, she has not fulfilled her potential with bat and ball over the last two seasons and something we pride ourselves on here in the ACT is providing players with a fresh start and ample support to ensure we transfer their potential into performance.
“We are confident we can help Anna become the world class player that she has the potential to be.”
The Abode Hotels ACT Meteors have now finalised their 14-player squad for the upcoming WNCL season.
