Cricket ACT is preparing for another blockbuster summer of cricket with Women’s National Cricket League (WNCL), Marsh Sheffield Shield, Marsh One-Day and Australia A Tour matches all coming to Canberra in 2021/22.

Cricket Australia unveiled the full domestic schedule today with Manuka Oval confirmed to host New South Wales and Victoria in a Marsh Sheffield Shield (October 26-29) and Marsh One-Day Cup (October 31) fixture, while the Abode Hotels ACT Meteors will return to Canberra’s top venue to play South Australia (Jan 7) and Western Australia (Jan 11) in two out of their three home WNCL matches.

A number of tour matches have also been scheduled with Australia’s women’s A side to face England in a three match Twenty 20 series (January 26, 28, 30) at EPC Solar Park. The series will be played alongside the CommBank Women’s Ashes Test scheduled for Manuka Oval from January 27-20, giving local fans the opportunity to witness a full festival of top level women’s cricket.

The Meteors will also play their third WNCL home game at EPC Solar Park against New South Wales on February 18.

The announcement of the domestic schedule adds to an already big summer in the capital which includes two Sydney Thunder home matches (December 6 & 28), the standalone Test of the CommBank Women’s Ashes Series (January 27-30) and a Dettol Men’s T20 International between Australia and New Zealand (February 8).

Cricket ACT CEO Olivia Thornton said it was pleasing to deliver a schedule that caters to every type of cricket fan.

“This summer truly has something for everyone,” Thornton said.

“No matter which format of the game you prefer, the upcoming summer of Canberra cricket has you covered.

“Manuka Oval will feature 15-days of entertaining elite level content this summer with a great mix of red and white ball matches which is an incredible result for our community.

“We saw in 2019 during the inaugural Test match that Canberran’s loves the longer format of the game, so we are pleased to welcome NSW and Victoria to Manuka for a great Marsh Sheffield Shield contest, followed two days later by a Marsh One Day Cup fixture.

“Our Abode Hotels ACT Meteors will also return to Manuka Oval this year for two out of their home games. Both will be played during the summer school holidays, so we hope to see plenty of supporters cheering on their local team.

“EPC Solar Park will also feature heavily in the schedule with an exciting three-match Australia A women’s T20 series against England coming up in January. This series will be played during the CommBank Women’s Ashes test, so there will be plenty of women’s cricket on show. The Meteors will also return to play at the venue in February to play against NSW in the final round of the WNCL.”

Details for the annual Prime Minister’s XI will be released in due course.
