“Lifeline does such important work to make sure that everyone has someone to talk to in their darkest moments. This year has been tough on everyone so it’s more important than ever that Lifeline can be there to answer calls for those in crisis,” Blake stated.

A website has been setup where people can donate and follow Blake's journey as he prepares for the run this weekend: https://give.everydayhero.com/au/24-hour-run-supporting-lifeline

Fellow ACT/NSW Country Comets have been helping him along the way by spreading the word and providing resources for the event. They have also created a roster amongst themselves so that Blake will always have a companion throughout the 24-hours. “To know I am going to have a teammate running beside me throughout the entire 24-hours is an awesome feeling and will help spur me on to run as far as possible.”

Blake himself did the Lifeline telephone crisis support training and found it to be an invaluable experience. “I learned so many useful skills that can be applied in everyday life with communication and relationships,” he said. "Everyone at Lifeline are such kind, compassionate and interesting people."

In doing this run, Blake hopes to not only raise needed funds for Lifeline, but also to open the discussion about mental health and suicide.

“Personally, exercise is important for my mental health so while this run is about challenging myself physically, it’s even more so about pushing beyond my mental barriers.”

Blake thanks everyone who has helped him along this journey in any way.

“The most enjoyable part of this process so far has been the immense amount of support from the community around me. I have had so many friends, family and other people reaching out to me asking how they can help.”

Cricket ACT recognises that initiatives like Blake’s run are highly important right now and as such, are still planning to host this year’s annual All Stars 4 Mental Health match to raise funds for Lifeline Canberra. This match will see the best premier cricketers in Canberra’s south take on their counterparts in the north in an exciting T20 match. Details to follow.
