Eight squads of the best female Under 15 cricketers in the country donned their states’ colours for the U15 National Championships.

In what is seen as the beginning of the high performance pathway for these young athletes, the opportunity to take the next step of their cricketing journey was potentially just around the corner; a 26 player Talent Squad chosen by Cricket Australia selectors.

The team of selectors that carefully watched each game included Cricket Australia’s High Performance Coach, Leah Poulton, who oversees the female program.

The Talent Squad will attend a camp at the Bupa National Cricket Centre in Brisbane later this year. Following the camp, 14 players will be selected to represent a Cricket Australia XI at next season's Cricket Australia Under 18 National Championships.

Among those selected for the Talent Squad was local star, Grace Lyons. The skipper of ACT/NSW Country had an excellent tournament, scoring 197 runs at 32.83 in a tournament that comprised of four T20s and four 40-over matches. This made her the fifth-highest run-scorer of the competition, only 16 runs short of the top scorer.

Additionally, Grace produced a tremendous bowling spell, taking five wickets for just four runs, including a hat-trick. She’ll no doubt be looking forward to the trip to Brisbane where she’ll have the opportunity to train at the facility that hosts the cream of the crop of Australian Cricket.
