The Kookaburra Cup is a staple on the Canberra sporting calendar as an annual pre-season tournament designed to attract players and teams to Canberra to showcase Australia’s number one sport – cricket.
This year’s Twenty20 tournament attracted a 45% increase in team registrations compared to last year with 74 teams taking part, resulting in more than 750 participants playing more than 250 games of cricket across the three-days.
Kookaburra Cup Tournament Organiser Chris Griffin said it was great to see so many young cricketers having a go and enjoying the festival-style tournament.
“The Canberra Southern Cross Club Kookaburra Cup is designed for maximum participation as players prepare for an upcoming club and representative season,” said Chris Griffin
“Again, the tournament has provided an opportunity for player development and maximum enjoyment.
“The Canberra Southern Cross Club has become a staple on the development pathway for young cricketers across the ACT and NSW. The growth this year has been phenomenal and confirms the importance of the tournament for boys, girls and their families each season.”
The tournament concluded today with Grand Finals being played at Lyneham, Deakin and Kambah. See below for full list of winners.
