ACT/NSW Country Comets had a nail-biting game against Victoria at Junction Oval between 12th-15th November in which they lost only by 18 runs in the final innings.

Victoria faced the ball first, opening with Edward Newman topping the score sheet making 65 runs off 56 balls, supported by Jonathon Merlo (52 runs). Comet’s bowling was highlighted by former Western District-UC player Tom Englebrecht taking an outstanding 5/14 off 7.4 overs, supported by Jonathon Cook taking 2/31 after 7 overs. Victoria was bowled out after 61.4 overs making 233 runs.

In reply, ACT/NSW Country Comets were determined to keep their current winning streak with Justin Avendano making 44 runs, supported by Hayden Kerr on 35 runs. Victoria attempted to reduce the run rate with Zak Evans taking 4/47 after 14.4 overs, supported by Jackson Coleman (3/42). The Comets was bowled out for 188 after 56.4 runs, allowing Victoria to start their second innings with a 45-run lead.

Victoria started their second innings with the intent to extend their current lead, the attack being led by Jonathon Merlo making 116 runs, supported by Xavier Crone (50 runs). The ACT/NSW Country Comet’s bowling attack was led by Jonathon Cook taking 2/41 after 23 overs, supported by Tom Pinson taking 2/46 after 14.4 overs. Victoria made 369 runs at the end of their campaign of 99.4 overs, extending their lead to 414 runs.

ACT/NSW Country Comets had a target to achieve 415 to take home the win. Henry Hunt opened the batting order strongly making 98 runs, with the support of Justin Avendano making 82 runs off 89 balls. Victoria attempted to keep the run rate low with the bowling attack being dominated by Xavier Crone taking 6/88 off 30 overs, supported by Jake Reed (2/60). The ACT/NSW Country Comets were bowled out for 396 after 105.1 overs, only 19 runs short of their target.
