ACT/NSW Country Comets have named their 13-man squad for their upcoming series of T20 matches against Queensland, NSW Metro and Cricket Australia Under 19’s in Sydney.
The Toyota Futures League expanded this season from its current four-day format to include a T20 component with a CA XI Under 19 team to also take part.
Canberra product Blake Macdonald will captain the squad for the first time in a team which features seven players who have been a part of the Canberra Comets program in the last two years.
ANU player Daniel Leerdam is set to make his debut while Tuggeranong’s Tom Vane Tempest returns to Futures League cricket after a two-year hiatus. Weston Creek Molonglo’s Djali Bloomfield also returns to the squad after being a consistent short format specialist.
ACT/NSW Country Comets Head Coach Kyle Piper commented on the squad.
“It’s pleasing to see Djali get his chance in this format. He is clearly the premier short format bowler in the ACT Premier competition and thoroughly deserves the opportunity,” said Piper
“His ability to execute the forgotten skill of a yorker is second to none and makes him a valuable asset to any side he plays in. He is a true competitor with ball in hand.
“For Dan and Tom it is great to see them continuing to develop into fine cricketers. Both have had to reset after their youth pathways ended over the last few years. Their work ethic and ability to compete will serve them well.”
ACT/NSW Country are currently sitting on top of the Toyota Futures League table with two wins, one loss and one draw after their opening four matches.
