On Friday 22 December, Simon Lightbody made his debut at the Adelaide Oval in the match between the Adelaide Strikers and visitors Sydney Thunder.
Hailing from Canberra, Lightbody began his umpiring career at the end of the 2005/06 season with the ACT Umpires and Scorers Council. In season 2012/13 Lightbody joined the Sydney Grade competition which saw him travel a 566km return journey between Canberra and Sydney each weekend.
Throughout his pathway, Lightbody has been involved in several underage international and domestic tournaments, including his first at the Under 17’s in 2008/09, and was then appointed in five further Under 19 tournaments.
Lightbody joined the Cricket Australia Development Umpire Panel in season 2015/16, and in October 2016 made his List A debut at North Sydney Oval in a One-Day Cup fixture between Victoria and the Cricket Australia XI. In February 2017 Lightbody made his First-Class debut in Hobart in the Sheffield Shield fixture between Tasmania and Western Australia, and was elevated to the National Umpire Panel in season 2017/18.
Currently, Lightbody has four First Class and four List A games to his name.
