In their final match of the 2017/18 WNCL season, the Abode Hotels ACT Meteors were looking to finish their campaign on a positive against Tasmania in Kingston, Hobart.
The Tasmania Roar won the toss and sent the visitors in to bat at Twin Ovals.
Katie Mack and Claire Koski were the opening pair and looking to replicate their 125 run opening partnership from the match against South Australia two days prior. That wasn’t to be however with Koski caught by Isobel Joyce for a duck off the bowling of Celeste Raack.
Captain Erin Osborne was next to the crease and both Mack and Osborne combined for a handy 63 runs before Erin Fazackerley struck to dismiss Osborne for 29. Mack (36 from 64), Jensen (32 from 47) and Reakes (46 from 43) all helped contribute to the innings total but it was Erin Burns who top-scored for 57 runs from 57 balls in an impressive knock. Isobel Joyce was the pick of the bowlers for the Roar with a five-wicket haul for just 24 runs from her 4.4 overs.
Coming in to bat needing 247 to win, the home side didn’t have an ideal start with Laura Wright caught by Kershaw in the third over to give Maitlan Brown her first wicket this season after returning from injury. Georgia Redmayne contributed with 34 runs before Hancock struck but it was their Captain Corinne Hall who gave the home side some hope hitting an unbeaten 60 runs from 80 balls.
It was the Meteors day however with the final three wickets falling in quick succession and Tasmania all out for 160 in the 42nd over. Bates, Osborne and Burns all finished with two wickets each.
