The Abode Hotels ACT Meteors have recorded their first win for the 2018/19 WNCL season with a four-wicket victory over Queensland Fire at Allan Border Field on Sunday.
After a disappointing result on Friday against Tasmania, the Meteors responded with a strong performance with both bat and ball to overcome the Fire.
Queensland won the toss and elected to bat, sending Kirby Short and Beth Mooney out to the middle.
It took until the 6th over for Hayley Jensen to strike, dismissing dangerous opening batter Kirby Short for just 11-runs.
Tess Cooper and Mooney looked like they could settle in for a big partnership but Zoe Cooke had other ideas to dismiss Cooper on just 14.
The Fire continued to lose wickets in quick succession with three-wickets from skipper Erin Osborne and a couple for Sam Bates seeing the Fire sitting on 7-89.
Lower-order batters Haidee Birkett and Jemma Barsby both put on brave performances to give the home side a respectable total at innings end, all out for 184.
Hayley Jensen (3-54) and Erin Osborne (3-21) were the pick of the ACT bowlers.
Chasing 185 for the win, Claire Koski and Katie Mack got the Meteors off to the start they needed, combining for 47 runs before Claire Koski was caught by keeper Mooney on 31.
Queensland managed to pick up the important wickets of Osborne, Burns and Jensen but a 46 from Katie Mack and 44 not out from Angela Reakes was enough to reach Queensland's total in the 46th over.
Erin Osborne was named player of the match.
