The ACT Emerging Comets are through to the grand final of the Under 13 WS Gee Shield which will be played at Timbrell Park this Sunday 9th December at 10am. This caps off a fantastic season for the ACT team which has been undefeated in their division. The ACT Emerging Comets finished first in the combined ladder.
The semi-final featured ACT playing against Hornsby Ku-ring-gai & Hills at Duncan Fields last Sunday. Hornsby took to the crease first with Lucas Sassen topping the score card at 17 runs, supported by Jordan Netto. ACT’s Kai Brunker bowled superbly taking 2/15 off 9 overs, supported by Sineth Herath taking 2/2 off 4 overs. Hornsby were bowled out after 34.1 overs for 74 runs.
ACT Emerging Comets replied strongly with captain Akshay Joseph making 35 not out and Oliver Withers making 22 not out. The pair created a 56-run partnership that guaranteed the win compiling two thirds of the required runs. Hornsby’s Sidhant Singh led the bowling attack taking 0/5 off 6 overs but could not contain the runs of the Joseph-Withers partnership. Comets achieved their target after 26.2 overs totalling 2/76 and moving through to the grand final.
This is the last team standing in the New South Wales District competition after the Under 14 team suffered a loss in the semi-final against Greater Illawarra, however supports the talent of our ACT players with the Under 15 Emerging Meteors winning their grand final a few weeks ago.
