Male Pathway

Why is it important?

  • To educate young athletes on what it means to be a High Performance Cricketer

  • Help young athletes transition into the Comets program

  • Provide knowledge, support and development opportunities for all facets of the game

  • Promote talent and coaching development

Comets Regional Academy

The Comets Regional Academy is the first step in the ACT Male Pathway. The Academy provides a development opportunity for male athletes aged between 12 and 16 years. The Academy is the foundation for potential higher honours in the ACT Male Pathway.

The Academy is an 8 week program that includes:

  • Skills (drills, scenarios and game based learning)
  • Strength and Conditioning
  • Tactical and Planning
  • Development of Leadership Qualities

Selection Process 

Selection trials for the Academy are held in May. Three selectors are present at each trial and selections are made in accordance with Cricket ACT's selection policy. Click here to download.

Intra-Zone Competition

The Intra-Zone Competition is a part of the entry level representative pathway for players, coaches and umpires. The competition provides an opportunity for talent identification and forms part of the selection process for NSW & Cricket ACT Regional Academy Programs, Youth Country Championships and the U16 Bradman Cup Team.

The Intra-Zone Competition includes:

  • 2 ACT teams in each age group selected from the Comets Regional Academy
  • 1 team selected from the Southern Tablelands
  • 1 team selected from South East

Youth Country Championships (YCC)

The Youth Country Championships is an ACT/NSW country based representative competition for country players, coaches and umpires. The competition provides an opportunity for talent identification and is a selection tool for Kookaburra Cup and State Challenge.

The Youth Country Championships includes:

  • 2 ACT/SD teams selected to compete in the 8 team Thunder Conference
  • 2 home and away fixtures as well as a 3 day carnival

U14 Kookaburra Cup

The Kookaburra Cup is a  NSW Country Representative Carnival. The competition provides an opportunity for talent identification and is a selection tool for State Challenge players and coaches.

U16 Bradman Cup

The Bradman Cup is a  NSW Country Representative Carnival. The competition provides an opportunity for talent identification and is a selection tool for State Challenge and U17 and U19 ACT/NSW Country State Squad.

U18 Country Colts

The Country Colts is a  NSW Country Representative Carnival. The competition provides an opportunity for talent identification and is a selection tool for State Challenge and U19 ACT/NSW Country State Squad

State Challenge

The State Challenge is a NSW representative carnival that provides an opportunity for players to compete against the best cricketers in NSW. The State Challenge provides a stretch opportunity for representative coaches. The competition is used for talent identification and is a selection tool for U17 and U19 state teams, NSW Zone Academy Programs, NSW Transition Squads and Cricket ACT Performance Squads.

The State Challenge includes:

  • Representative Carnivals for ages 13, 14, 15, 16, 17 and 19
  • 1 team is selected from South East NSW/ACT in ages 13 and 14
  • 1 team is selected from Southern NSW in ages 15, 16, 17 and 19

U15 ACT Team

The ACT U15 Team competes at the Under 15 National Carnival. The carnival provides an opportunity for identified ACT cricketers to play against the best players in the country. The carnival is part of the pathway for ACT/NSW Country Championship U17 team.

U17 and U19 ACT/NSW Country Teams

The U17 and U19 ACT/NSW Country Teams compete in Cricket Australia run National Championships. The championships provide an opportunity for talent identification of potential future players for ACT Comets, NSW Blues, Sydney Thunder,  Sydney Sixes and Second XI Teams. Furthermore, the championships are used as a selection tool for Cricket Australia U19 Team and/or Talent Squad. They provide opportunity for coaches at the pathway national level.

Elite U19 Competition

The Elite U19 Competition is an ACT pathway entry point. It is a participation competition and provides a bridge for players transitioning from ASC, regional centres and/or junior clubs into the Canberra Premier Competition.

The Elite U19 Competition includes:

  • A 6 team competition for U19 players in the ACT/Southern District region.
  • Teams from North, East, South & West Canberra, as well as South Coast/Monaro and Goulburn/Southern Highlands
