Cricket ACT celebrated its annual awards night on Thursday night, recognising individual and team performances from the local ACT Premier competition, ACT Meteors and ACT/NSW Country Comets.
ACT Meteors pace bowler Gabrielle Sutcliffe took home her first Calver Medal for Meteors Player of the Year, while Comet Blake Macdonald now has a second Solway Medal to his name after strong batting performances for ACT/NSW Country in the Men’s Second XI competition. Following the recent summer, the ACT product secured a first class contract with the NSW Blues for season 2023/24.
Western District captain Scott Murn and Queanbeyan all-rounder Tyler Van Luin shared DB Robin Medal honours for Men’s Premier Player of the Year, the second year in a row that Murn has shared the stage after equalling votes with Mark Solway in the 2021/22 vote count.
ANU’s Aisling Visser-Connolly secured her first SJ Moore Medal for Women’s Grade Player of the Year, rounding out a spectacular season for the young bowler, while indoor cricket veteran Vinesh Bennett was named Floros Medallist for his efforts with the ACT Rockets during the 2022 National Indoor Cricket Championships.
The awards also honoured the impressive playing careers of Jodie Davis and the late Neil Bulger, who were inducted as 15th and 16th members of the Cricket ACT Hall of Fame.
