Cricket ACT is pleased to announce the squad to contest the upcoming Under 17s Male National Championships, the first step for players from the region’s cricket development pathways to test themselves at national level.
The Under 17s squad heads to Ballarat in regional Victoria early in the New Year to contest their National Championships, which will be played at various grounds in the famous gold rush city from Friday, 5 January to Thursday, 11 January.
As with the Under 19 Male National Championships, the Under 17s carnival will be contested by all eight Australian state and territory associations, with New South Wales and Victoria both entering Country and Metro teams, to form a ten-team competition.
Cricket ACT Pathways coach Jake Floros will lead the squad once again in 2023/24, with CACT Head of Cricket, Stuart Karppinen, travelling with the squad as an assistant coach.
Karppinen says the National Championships provide an important opportunity for players from the ACT to measure themselves against state and territory counterparts.
“We’re really keen to see our local ACT cricket talent compete at this level, and we’re equally pleased we can provide them with this opportunity.
“The number of Australian players who started their journey to national teams at Under 17s level since the age group championships began in the 1960s is quite remarkable.
“But while we hope our players take the opportunity to challenge themselves in Ballarat, we especially want them to enjoy their cricket and create great memories that will last for the rest of their careers.”
