The Intravision ACT Meteors are proud to announce a new era of leadership, with all-rounder Carly Leeson appointed as the team’s captain ahead of the upcoming season.
Leeson, who joined the Meteors ahead of the 2019/20 Women’s National Cricket League (WNCL) season after a stint with the NSW Breakers, has been a key figure in the squad for a number of years, both on and off the field. She has served as vice-captain since the 2023/24 season, bringing a calm presence and tactical insight to the role.
Leeson takes over the captaincy from Katie Mack, who departed the ACT Meteors at the end of last season to return home to the NSW Breakers.
Leeson’s leadership credentials were on full display during the inaugural Spring Challenge in October last year, where she stepped up as acting captain in the absence of Mack. Under her guidance, the Meteors delivered a string of strong performances, with Leeson herself shining with the bat, scoring 148 runs from four innings at a strike rate of 128.69, including a match-winning 68 against the Melbourne Stars, which earned her Player of the Match honours.
Leeson also brings a wealth of experience from the WBBL, having represented the Sydney Sixers, Melbourne Renegades, and Perth Scorchers.
Joining Leeson in the leadership group are Grace Lyons and Holly Ferling, who will serve as co vice-captains.
Ferling continues in the role she has held for several seasons, offering invaluable experience and mentorship. Meanwhile Lyons steps into a formal leadership position for the first time, having impressed with her maturity and leadership potential in recent seasons.
Speaking on the announcement, Leeson said she was honoured to lead the Meteors and excited to work alongside Ferling and Lyons to guide the team forward.
“It’s a privilege to captain this group. We’ve got a great mix of experience and emerging talent, and I’m looking forward to building on the momentum we’ve created,” Leeson said.
The full ACT Meteors playing group returned to pre-season training this week.
