Ginninderra will appear in their third grand final of the season, with the Douglas Cup firmly in their sights as they look to finally convert strong performances into silverware.
After a frustrating washout in the T20 final that left them empty-handed, and a narrow loss to Tuggeranong in the one-day final, Ginninderra now turn their attention to the two-day competition. Defending their title from last season stands Queanbeyan, the reigning champs of the two-day competition and a side well accustomed to the pressures of finals cricket.
Zac Maron Ginninderra’s opening batsman reflected on the season so far, saying, “I think we’ve had a really strong season so far”, acknowledging that despite consistent performances, the team has yet to fully capitalise. However, optimism remains high heading into the final, with the belief that “The two-day final would be a great way to finish.”
He also highlighted how this season marks a turning point for the club, particularly in knockout matches. Ginninderra have historically struggled to progress beyond the semi-final stage, but that narrative has shifted in 2025/26.
He explained that the experience gained this season has been invaluable, stating, “(this) definitely gives us a bit of experience going into the last one”. With multiple finals appearances already under their belt, Ginninderra believe the time has come to break through and claim a premiership.
Weather, however, looms as a major factor once again. Ginninderra are hoping that not all three of their grand finals this season will be impacted by rain, with clear skies forecasted heading into Friday. That said, cricket in the ACT this year has been repeatedly disrupted by heavy rainfall, particularly during crucial matches, adding an extra layer of uncertainty to the decider.
Queanbeyan all-rounder David Waters is also eager for uninterrupted play, hoping the rain stays away so the final can be decided on the field rather than by conditions. With Queanbeyan finishing lower on the ladder, Waters believes a full contest would suit his side.
“Obviously keen to get out there and play, but ultimately, we can’t control it. Weve just got to play the game as we see it and as it comes.”, Waters said.
Reflecting on the different circumstances compared to earlier in the season, Waters added, “ a bit of a different situation to the T20 final where, we are the lower ranked team.” Queanbeyan will be looking to use their finals experience to challenge Ginninderra in what shapes up to be a tightly contested grand final.
All finals will be live streamed via the Cricket ACT YouTube page.
