Cricket ACT Welcomes Two New Hall of Fame Inductees for 2025/26 season

Cricket ACT celebrated their annual ACT Cricket Awards on Thursday night by welcoming two new members into its prestigious Hall of Fame.

Nina Southwell and Cade Brown were inducted as the 21st and 22nd members of the Cricket ACT Hall of Fame respectively, both honoured for their significant contributions to ACT Cricket and their roles in inspiring the next generation of local cricketers.

Nina Southwell

Along with Majorie Moore, Nina Southwell was one of the main pioneers of Women’s cricket in the Canberra region. She was an excellent bowler in the 1930s, with the ability to flight the ball on a good length and direction. She played for Hall in the local competition and was the vice-captain to Marjorie Moore in Country Week matches. She was also the Treasurer of the FCT Women’s Cricket Association. Born in 1897, Nina Southwell passed away in 1956 at the age of 59.

Cade Brown

Born in Wodonga, Cade Brown moved to Canberra in 1999 and quickly became a member of the Canberra Comets final season squad. He went on to be one of the best players to ever play grade cricket and for the ACT in the modern era. Cade played 58 matches for the ACT scoring just under 3000 runs including the highest ever score for the ACT, 223 against Queensland Academy of Sport in 2004/05. He captained the ACT between 2003/04 and 2005/06. An ACT one club player for Weston Creek Molonglo, he played 228 matches for the club, scoring 9948 runs in 1st Grade, the highest overall in ACT 1st Grade history. He won the DB Robin Medal in 2005/06 and won the Greg Irvine Medal for the player of the 1st Grade Final on three occasions. He played for the PM’s XI in 2003/04 against India, scoring 80 against a Test quality attack. He was made a Life Member of Cricket ACT in 2016.
