The ACT Meteors are once again throwing their support behind Karinya House, encouraging the Canberra community to get behind the organisation and help raise funds for women experiencing vulnerability during pregnancy and early parenting.
The entire ACT Meteors squad will join Karinya House’s Walk for Hope on Sunday 13 September and have pledged to complete physical challenges tied directly to their fundraising, with every dollar raised contributing to the challenge.
The Meteors raised more than $6,000 for Karinya House in 2025 and are determined to make an even greater contribution this year.
The partnership is particularly meaningful for the playing group, with ACT Meteor Angelina Genford developing a strong connection to Karinya House.
After taking part in Karinya House's Walk for Hope event last year, Genford was inspired by the stories she heard and the impact the organisation was having in the community. The experience led her to begin volunteering with Karinya House in her own time, further strengthening her commitment to the cause.
Karinya House provides safety, accommodation and vital support services to women and their babies during some of life's most challenging circumstances, and the Meteors are proud to shine a light on the organisation's important work.
ACT Meteor Angelina Genford said;
"Being involved in Walk for Hope opened my eyes to the incredible work Karinya House does to support women and families in our community. The experience had a real impact on me and inspired me to get involved as a volunteer."
"The support, care and opportunities Karinya House provides can make such a difference at a critical time in people's lives. I'm proud that our team can play a role in helping raise awareness and funds for such an important organisation."
To support the fundraising effort, players will undertake a physical challenge designed to test their endurance while raising both funds and awareness for the cause. Every repetition completed by the team will contribute towards their fundraising target, with the challenge symbolising the determination and resilience shown by the women supported through Karinya House.
Karinya House Acting CEO Ellen Field said;
“We are delighted to have the continued support of the ACT Meteors for the 2026 Walk for Hope. The squad’s ongoing commitment to this annual event is a wonderful reflection of the strong community spirit we see right across Canberra.”
“Having the ACT Meteors return as Champions for a second year is incredibly meaningful, and we can’t wait to see the creative fundraising efforts they have planned over the coming weeks. We encourage the Canberra community to get behind the squad and support their fundraising efforts. Every dollar raised by the ACT Meteors will go directly to Karinya House, helping provide critical support and care to women experiencing crisis.”
“We are incredibly grateful for their continued commitment and look forward to walking alongside the ACT Meteors community on Sunday, 13 September, as they reaffirm their support for women in our community.”
The ACT Meteors encourage members of the cricket community and the broader Canberra public to support the initiative and help Karinya House continue delivering critical services to women and families across the region.
