The ACT Meteors have named their 13-player squad to take part in Cricket Australia’s Women’s Second XI, playing a tri-series against South Australia and Tasmania, with two one-day fixtures to be held at Karen Rolton Oval this week.
This is the first time the ACT Meteors have played in the designated Second XI program, designed to provide an important bridge between elite and pathway environments, and giving developing players the opportunity to test themselves against quality opposition and build their experience.
The tri-series will provide both contracted ACT Meteors and non-contracted players additional opportunities to play quality, competitive cricket in the lead up to the Meteors first WNCL match in mid-December.
ACT product Rach Carroll will captain the side, with Zoe Cooke named vice-captain.
Amber Smith and Brie Dillon got a taste for top-level domestic cricket as part of the recent ACT Meteors T20 Spring Challenge squad, while Alia Livermoore, Tia Slater and Monica Gair have also been added to the squad. Contracted ACT Meteor Grace Dignam also returns to the squad following her recovery from injury.
Missing from the squad due to WBBL commitments are regular captain Carly Leeson (Melbourne Stars), Grace Lyons (Sydney Sixers), Annie Wikman (Melbourne Renegades), Olivia Porter (Melbourne Renegades) and Anesu Mushangwe (Adelaide Strikers).
